Vionnet Spring 2011

vionnet has quiet a history. madeleine vionnet was the french designer who created this brand. she is best-known for her elegant grecian-style dresses and for introducing bias cut to the fashion world. vionnet dominated haute couture in the 1930s. her dresses were worn by the like of marlene dietrich, katharine hepburn, and greta garbo.
the current vionnet is under the direction of rodolfo paglialunga and has a steady following in hollywood. although the pre-fall and fall collections were disappointing, i loved its spring collection.

Style: Sienna Miller & Nude Top

one of the trends this season: soft pink/peachy/nude tones.
sienna miller manages to do simple casual and punky street-style all with one mulberry top.
i mean when is she not fashionable..?!

Piaget Possession 20th Anniversary

piaget celebrated the 20th anniversary of their possession collection with lots of gold and sparkle.
the updated line wasn't exactly unique since some of the pieces looked like the crossbreed of cartier's trinity collection and david yurman's chain/cordelia collection. nonetheless, the jewels below stole my gold-and-glitz-obsessed heart.

classique chain motif ring / 18K yellow gold
the chain part of the ring moves!

i like that it gives the illusion of having multiple stacked rings

absolute beauty. need i say more?

Givenchy Fall 2011

i wasn't expecting a collection like this having seen spring 2011. but i suppose it's not so different considering that (as he did last season) he worked and reworked a single silhouette (loose-fitting sweater, varsity jacket, and  knee-length skirt) in a tight, interrelated group of fabrics. i love that givenchy didn't resort to boring pumps but instead added some gold to it. and the panther skirts are amazing. i would wear it for work because nothing says "i'm fierce. don't piss me off" like those skirts!

Miu Miu Fall 2011

my first reaction to this collection was "yikes...what happen here...?"
and it still holds true for some of the looks. for example..... the most oddly proportioned, unflattering, boxy shaped coats...! if tall and skinny models look pretty sad wearing the clothes, best bet that the normal person will not look good in it. i mean if natasha poly looks bad in the prada coat (picture 5), it's going to be very hard for you to pull it off. having said that, some of the more reasonable shaped dresses were good. but yea not getting the fur around your belly. maybe miuccia prada is being considerate for your cold tummy during winter...
quiet an iffy collection but the dresses are good and the prints are quiet beautiful. what i did love, though, are the big clutches!

the trouble-some coat

yea...miuccia definitely ran out of ideas when she sketched this coat.

Tamara de Lempicka

tamara de lempicka is one of my favorite artists. i love her color scheme, brush work, and the mood her paintings convey. she is a beautiful polish art deco painter who was not only known for her work but for her love of glamorous social life. her distinctive and bold artistic style developed quickly and epitomized the cool yet sensual side of the art deco movement.
